Just finished reading The Wedding Trousseau and other short stories by Ankita Sharma.
Prima facie, my expectation from the book by looking at the all pink cover with red bold lettering - the stories inside would be all mushy kinds. But then I peek in... into the foreword by the author. Numerous short stories with different emotions as central theme
And Yes!! 11 Stories each one of them different. Different environs, different kinds of people and different themes. Literally kept me glued to the entire book until I reached the last page. Each of the stories has a lot to offer. Not all of them have fairy tale endings. Some of them disappoint you as a reader, as they leave you in the lurch without a black and white ending. But probably that's how they were meant to be. Open ended and trying to provoke a string of thought in the mind of the reader to come up with a conclusion that would suit his/her imagination. I would like to take that in a positive sense as it shakes up known belief's of having concrete endings each time.
The language was fluid and very simple, coherent and comprehensible albeit with a few well placed "heavy" words from a thesaurus. There were no unnecessarily lengthy descriptive paragraphs that made you wonder what the heck was going on before I was launched into this maze of descriptions.
A good read for people looking for fresh literature without typical cliched and predictable "pot boiler" plots. For those who like fairy tale endings, some of the stories may not be your types. If you like variety, this might just tickle your palate.
Wishing author Ankita Sharma all the very best for this book and for all future books as well. Keep smiling and keep writing!!
